Why in News?
On 26 October 2026, a Supreme Court bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana noted that 14 states have so far agreed to raise the superannuation age of district judicial officers from 60 to 62 years. Its 4 September 2026 order had directed seven consenting states to amend their service rules and asked other states and UTs to reconsider. The court said the issue lies between the court and the states and refused to list individual pleas of retiring officers.
