Answer View answer ▾

Answer: Option C — Tanvi Shah

Detailed Solution

Explanation

Tanvi Shah, a singer and songwriter from Chennai, became the first Indian woman to win a Grammy Award. She won it in 2010, at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards, for the song "Jai Ho" from the film "Slumdog Millionaire".

"Jai Ho" won the Grammy for Best Song Written for Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media. The award was shared by the composer A.R. Rahman, the lyricist Gulzar and Tanvi Shah. Tanvi Shah wrote and sang the Spanish lines of the song, which gave it its international flavour. She has sung in many languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and English, and has worked with A.R. Rahman on several film soundtracks.

"Slumdog Millionaire" (2008), directed by the British filmmaker Danny Boyle, was set in Mumbai and became one of the most successful films of its time. At the 81st Academy Awards in 2009, A.R. Rahman won two Oscars for the film, for Best Original Score and for Best Original Song ("Jai Ho", shared with Gulzar), and Resul Pookutty won the Oscar for sound mixing. At the Grammy Awards of 2010, A.R. Rahman won two Grammys for the film, one for the soundtrack album and one for "Jai Ho".

The Grammy Awards are presented by the Recording Academy of the United States and are the most famous awards in the world of music. Other Indians who have won Grammys include Pandit Ravi Shankar, Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Zakir Hussain and Ricky Kej.

  • ✗None of them is linked with the Grammy for "Jai Ho".
