What is the full form of 'IND-INDO CORPAT'?

Answer View answer ▾

Answer: Option D — India-Indonesia Coordinated Patrol

Detailed Solution

IND-INDO CORPAT stands for the "India-Indonesia Coordinated Patrol", a joint naval patrol by the Indian Navy and the Indonesian Navy along their International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL).

About IND-INDO CORPAT:

  • It began in 2002.
  • It is held twice a year.
  • The two navies patrol along their maritime boundary, which lies between the Andaman and Nicobar Islands (India) and the island of Sumatra (Indonesia), near the entrance to the Strait of Malacca.
  • Indira Point, the southernmost tip of India on Great Nicobar Island, is only about 150-160 km from the Indonesian island of Sumatra.

Its aims:

  • To keep this important part of the Indian Ocean safe and secure for shipping and trade.
  • To prevent illegal activities such as piracy, armed robbery, smuggling, illegal fishing, drug trafficking and illegal immigration.
  • To improve understanding and cooperation between the two navies, and conduct search and rescue operations.

India's other coordinated patrols:

  • India-Thailand CORPAT (Indo-Thai CORPAT): since 2005.
  • India-Myanmar CORPAT (IMCOR): since 2013.
  • India-Bangladesh CORPAT: since 2018.

Bilateral naval exercises with Indonesia:

  • "Samudra Shakti": the India-Indonesia naval exercise.
  • "Garuda Shakti": the army special forces exercise.

India-Indonesia relations:

  • They have a "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership" (2018).
  • India's "Act East Policy" gives importance to Indonesia, the largest country in ASEAN.
  • Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto was the chief guest at India's Republic Day in 2025.

Why not the other options?

  • ✗"Corporate Partnership" is not the correct expansion.
  • ✗"Indochina Cooperation Pact" is not the correct expansion.
  • ✗"Coastal Radar Project" is not the correct expansion.

Quick tip

Remember: IND-INDO CORPAT = India-Indonesia Coordinated Patrol (since 2002; twice a year; near the Andaman Sea and Malacca Strait); Indo-Thai CORPAT = 2005; India-Indonesia naval exercise = Samudra Shakti.

Defence Technology & Missiles — Preparation

This question tests your understanding of Defence Technology & Missiles, a key topic in the General Knowledge section. The detailed solution above uses a step-by-step approach to show the reasoning, and where available, a shortcut that helps you solve similar questions in under 90 seconds during the actual exam.

This topic covers India's defence technology: the missiles developed under the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme and later, their types and ranges, DRDO, defence equipment such as aircraft, tanks, submarines and warships, and military exercises with other countries. Common questions ask what type a missile is (Prithvi is surface-to-surface, Akash is surface-to-air, and Nag is anti-tank), which missile was developed with Russia (BrahMos), and which countries take part in a joint exercise. Lists of exercises and newly inducted equipment change often, so check current affairs as well. Practise the defence technology and missiles questions below, written in the style of the general awareness sections of exams such as SSC, banking, railways, CUET GAT, MAH CET and CLAT. Each question comes with a detailed explanation that adds related facts, so every question helps you revise more than one point.
