Answer: Option D — Arunachal Pradesh
Detailed Solution
Tamladu (also spelt Tamla Du) is the most important festival of the Digaru Mishmi tribe of Arunachal Pradesh. It is celebrated every year on 15 February, mainly in the Lohit and Anjaw districts in the eastern part of the state.
Tamladu is a festival of prayer to the gods of nature. During the festival, the Digaru Mishmis pray to the Earth god and the Water god, and to other deities, for protection from natural calamities such as floods, landslides and earthquakes, and for the welfare and prosperity of the people, good crops and healthy livestock. The rituals are performed by the priest, and offerings are made to the deities. The festival also includes community feasting, cultural programmes, traditional dances and songs. The people dress in their traditional costumes, with the women wearing their distinctive silver ornaments and finely woven clothes.
The Mishmis are a group of tribes living in the Dibang Valley, Lohit and Anjaw districts of Arunachal Pradesh, near the borders with China and Myanmar. They are divided into three main groups: the Idu (Chulikata) Mishmis, the Digaru (Taraon) Mishmis and the Miju (Kaman) Mishmis. The Mishmis are known for their skill in weaving and for their knowledge of medicinal plants, such as the Mishmi teeta, a valuable herb. The Idu Mishmis celebrate the Reh festival.
Arunachal Pradesh has more than 25 major tribes, each with its own festivals. Other well-known festivals include Losar (Monpas), Solung (Adis), Mopin (Galos), Dree (Apatanis), Nyokum (Nyishis), Boori Boot (Nyishis) and Chalo Loku (Noctes).
