Rajghat (Raj Ghat) is a memorial to Mahatma Gandhi in Delhi, on the western bank of the Yamuna river.
About Rajghat:
- It marks the place where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated on 31 January 1948, the day after his assassination.
- The memorial is a simple, square platform of black marble, open to the sky, with an eternal flame burning at one end.
- The words "He Ram", believed to be Gandhi's last words, are inscribed on it.
- It is surrounded by lawns and trees and is reached through a stone path.
It was designed by the architect Vanu G. Bhuta.
Visiting foreign dignitaries traditionally lay wreaths at Rajghat, and visitors remove their shoes before entering.
