Answer: Option C — Tirumala, Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh)
Detailed Solution
The Sri Venkateswara Swamy Vaari Temple is located on the Tirumala hills, near the town of Tirupati, in the Tirupati district of Andhra Pradesh.
About the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple:
It is dedicated to Lord Venkateswara (also called Balaji, Srinivasa or Govinda), a form of Lord Vishnu, believed to have appeared here to save humanity in the "Kali Yuga".
It is located on the "Venkatadri" hill, one of the seven hills of Tirumala ("Saptagiri"), at a height of about 850 metres. The seven hills are believed to represent the seven heads of the serpent Adisesha.
It is built in the Dravidian style. The main shrine has a gold-plated dome called the "Ananda Nilayam".
It was patronised by many dynasties, including the Pallavas, Cholas, Pandyas and Vijayanagara rulers. Krishnadeva Raya visited it several times and donated gold and jewels.
It is one of the most visited religious places in the world, with about 60,000-1,00,000 pilgrims visiting every day.
It is one of the richest temples in the world in terms of annual income from donations ("hundi" offerings) and offerings of gold.
Devotees often offer their hair ("tonsuring") as an act of devotion.
The famous "Tirupati Laddu" prasadam has a Geographical Indication (GI) tag (2009).
The temple is managed by the "Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams" (TTD), set up in 1932 under a special Act. TTD also runs schools, colleges, hospitals and the "Sri Venkateswara Bhakti Channel".
The "Brahmotsavam" festival (usually in September-October) is the most important annual festival.
