The National Institute of Homoeopathy (NIH) is located in Salt Lake City (Bidhannagar), Kolkata, West Bengal.

About Homoeopathy:
It was developed in 1796 by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician. He is called the "Father of Homoeopathy".
It is based on the principle "Similia Similibus Curentur" ("let like be cured by like"), the idea that a substance that causes symptoms in a healthy person can, in very small doses, treat similar symptoms in a sick person.
It uses highly diluted medicines.
It came to India in the early 19th century; Bengal became an early centre.
Dr. Mahendra Lal Sarkar was one of the first Indian doctors to practise Homoeopathy; he founded the "Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science" (IACS) in Kolkata in 1876.
Calcutta Homoeopathic Medical College (1881) was the first homoeopathic college in India.
Regulation and research:
- National Commission for Homoeopathy (NCH): set up in 2021 under the NCH Act, 2020, replacing the Central Council of Homoeopathy (1973).
- Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH): New Delhi (1978).
- World Homoeopathy Day: 10 April, Hahnemann's birthday.
Other AYUSH national institutes:
- National Institute of Unani Medicine: Bengaluru.
- National Institute of Siddha: Chennai (Tambaram).
- National Institute of Naturopathy: Pune (Bapu Bhawan, where Gandhi stayed).
- Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga: New Delhi.
- National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa: Leh, Ladakh.
- National Institute of Ayurveda: Jaipur.
Why not the other options?
- ✗New Delhi has the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy.
- ✗Pune has the National Institute of Naturopathy.
- ✗Lucknow does not host the National Institute of Homoeopathy.
