Assertion & Reasoning Questions with Solutions

9 questions6 easy3 medium

Assertion and reason questions give two statements: an assertion (A) and a reason (R). You must decide whether each statement is true or false and, if both are true, whether R correctly explains A. The standard options are: both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A; both are true but R is not the correct explanation; A is true but R is false; and A is false but R is true. Work in two steps. First, check each statement independently for truth. Second, if both are true, test the link by putting "because" between them: "A because R". If that sentence makes logical sense and R actually explains why A is true, R is the correct explanation. Many students lose marks by choosing the first option whenever both statements are true, so always check the link separately. Practise the assertion and reason questions below. Each solution checks both statements and the link between them.
