Answer: Option C — 2007
Detailed Solution
Explanation
The legendary playback singer Manna Dey received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2007, the highest honour in Indian cinema, for his long and distinguished contribution to film music. The award was presented to him in 2009.
Manna Dey (1919-2013) was born as Prabodh Chandra Dey in Kolkata. He was inspired and trained by his uncle, Krishna Chandra Dey (K.C. Dey), a famous blind singer and composer, and he also learnt Hindustani classical music from Ustad Dabir Khan and others. He moved to Mumbai with his uncle in 1942 and began singing in films. His strong training in classical music made him the first choice of composers for songs based on ragas, and he was admired for his ability to sing in many styles, from classical and devotional songs to romantic, comic and folk songs. His famous songs include "Laga Chunari Mein Daag", "Pucho Na Kaise Maine Rain Bitayi", "Ae Meri Zohra Jabeen", "Pyar Hua Iqrar Hua" (with Lata Mangeshkar), "Ek Chatur Naar" (with Kishore Kumar) and "Kasme Vaade Pyar Wafa". He sang in many languages, especially Hindi and Bengali, and his Bengali songs are also very popular. He received the Padma Shri (1971) and the Padma Bhushan (2005). He died in Bengaluru in 2013.
The Dadasaheb Phalke Award was instituted in 1969 and named after Dadasaheb Phalke, the "Father of Indian Cinema". Other singers who have received it include Lata Mangeshkar (1989), Bhupen Hazarika (1992) and Asha Bhosle (2000).

- ✗2001 is not linked with Manna Dey's major awards.
- ✗2005 is the year Manna Dey received the Padma Bhushan.
- ✗2010 is not linked with this award.
