  • It encouraged Indian Muslims to join the national movement and promoted Hindu-Muslim unity.
  • It became very popular, with a large circulation for its time.
  • The British government took action against it under the Press Act of 1910, and it was closed in 1914.
  • Azad then started another weekly, "Al-Balagh" (1915), which was also closed when he was externed from Bengal in 1916.

About Maulana Abul Kalam Azad:

  • He was born on 11 November 1888 in Mecca and died on 22 February 1958.

Other journals of the national movement:

  • "Comrade" (English) and "Hamdard" (Urdu): Muhammad Ali Jauhar.
  • "Tehzeeb-ul-Akhlaq": Sir Syed Ahmad Khan.
