Answer View answer ▾

Answer: Option C — Malala Yousafzai

Detailed Solution

"We Are Displaced: My Journey and Stories from Refugee Girls Around the World" is a book by Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani education activist, published in 2019.

About the book:

In the first part, Malala describes her own experience of being displaced: first within Pakistan, when her family had to leave the Swat Valley during military operations against the Taliban in 2009, and later when she had to live in England after being attacked.

In the second part, she shares the true stories of girls she met in refugee camps and communities around the world, such as Zaynab from Yemen, Muzon from Syria, Najla from Iraq and others, who fled war and persecution.

The book highlights the courage of refugee girls and the importance of education for them.

About Malala Yousafzai:

  • She was born on 12 July 1997 in Mingora, Swat Valley, Pakistan.
  • As a schoolgirl, she wrote a blog for BBC Urdu (under the pen name "Gul Makai") about life under the Taliban, who had banned girls' education.

On 9 October 2012, she was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman while on her school bus. She survived after treatment in Birmingham, England.

In 2014, at the age of 17, she became the youngest-ever Nobel Prize laureate, sharing the Nobel Peace Prize with India's Kailash Satyarthi.

The United Nations declared 12 July, her birthday, as "Malala Day".

She graduated from the University of Oxford in 2020.

Her other books:

  • "I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban" (2013, with Christina Lamb).
  • "Malala's Magic Pencil" (2017), a children's picture book.
  • She founded the Malala Fund (2013) to support girls' education.

Other young activists' books:

  • Greta Thunberg: "No One Is Too Small to Make a Difference" (2019) and "Our House Is on Fire" (with her family).
  • Nadia Murad: "The Last Girl" (2017); Nobel Peace Prize 2018 for her work against sexual violence by ISIS.

Why not the other options?

  • ✗Greta Thunberg is a climate activist who wrote "No One Is Too Small to Make a Difference".
  • ✗Nadia Murad wrote "The Last Girl".
  • ✗Michelle Obama wrote "Becoming".

Quick tip

Remember: "We Are Displaced" (2019) and "I Am Malala" (2013) = Malala Yousafzai (youngest Nobel laureate, 2014, with Kailash Satyarthi); "The Last Girl" = Nadia Murad.
