Answer: Option A — Jane Austen
Detailed Solution
"Pride and Prejudice" is a novel by the English writer Jane Austen, published in 1813. It is one of the most popular novels in English literature.
About the novel:
It is set among the landed gentry of England in the early 19th century.
The main character is Elizabeth Bennet, the second of five daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet, whose mother is eager to see them married to wealthy men.
Elizabeth first dislikes the proud and wealthy Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy, and he looks down on her family. As the story develops, both overcome their pride and prejudice, and they finally marry.
It begins with the famous line: "It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife."
The novel is famous for its wit, irony and sharp observation of social manners, marriage and class.
It has been adapted many times, including a famous BBC television series (1995) and a film (2005), and inspired the Bollywood film "Bride and Prejudice" (2004).
