'Wide Angle' is a book by which Indian cricketer?

Answer View answer ▾

Answer: Option C — Anil Kumble

Detailed Solution

"Wide Angle" is a book by the Indian leg-spinner Anil Kumble, published in 2001, in which he shares his cricket career and experiences from his own point of view. Kumble is also a keen wildlife photographer.

About Anil Kumble:

  • He was born on 17 October 1970 in Bengaluru, Karnataka, and studied mechanical engineering.
  • He is nicknamed "Jumbo".
  • He took 619 Test wickets, the most by an Indian bowler, and 337 ODI wickets.
  • On 7 February 1999, he took all 10 wickets in an innings (10 for 74) against Pakistan in Delhi, becoming the second bowler in Test history to do so, after Jim Laker.
  • In 2002, he bowled with a broken jaw against the West Indies in Antigua and dismissed Brian Lara.
  • He captained India in 14 Tests (2007-2008).
  • He was head coach of the Indian men's team (2016-2017) and later chairman of the ICC Cricket Committee.
  • He was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame in 2015 and received the Padma Shri in 2005.
  • He is involved in wildlife conservation and was vice-chairman of the Karnataka State Wildlife Board.

Books by other Indian cricketers:

  • Sachin Tendulkar: "Playing It My Way".
  • Sunil Gavaskar: "Sunny Days".
  • Kapil Dev: "Straight from the Heart".
  • Sourav Ganguly: "A Century Is Not Enough".
  • V. S. Laxman: "281 and Beyond".
  • Rahul Dravid's biography: "The Nice Guy Who Finished First" (by Devendra Prabhudesai).
  • Ravichandran Ashwin: "I Have the Streets: A Kutti Cricket Story" (2024).

Why not the other options?

  • ✗Javagal Srinath, Kumble's Karnataka team-mate, did not write "Wide Angle".
  • ✗Rahul Dravid's life is told in "The Nice Guy Who Finished First".
  • ✗Harbhajan Singh is not the author of "Wide Angle".

Quick tip

Remember: "Wide Angle" = Anil Kumble (2001); Kumble = 619 Test wickets, 10/74 vs Pakistan (1999); "I Have the Streets" = R. Ashwin.
