Detailed Solution

India's only Naval Aviation Museum is located at Bogmalo, near Vasco da Gama, in Goa.

About the Naval Aviation Museum:

  • It was opened on 12 October 1998.
  • It is run by the Indian Navy.
  • It is located near the naval air station INS Hansa, which is the main base of the Indian Navy's aviation wing on the west coast.
  • It is often described as one of only two naval aviation museums in Asia.
  • It has both an outdoor exhibition and an indoor gallery.

Its outdoor exhibits include aircraft and helicopters that served in the Indian Navy, such as the Super Constellation, the Sea Hawk, the Alize (an anti-submarine aircraft), the Sea Harrier, the Kamov Ka-25, the Sea King and the Fairey Firefly.

Its indoor galleries display models, weapons, uniforms, photographs, flight simulators and the history of Indian naval aviation.

About naval aviation in India:

The Indian Navy's air arm was formed in 1953, when the Naval Air Station at Kochi (INS Garuda) was commissioned.

India's first aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant (formerly HMS Hercules), was commissioned in 1961. It played an important role in the 1971 war.

INS Viraat (formerly HMS Hermes) served from 1987 to 2017.

INS Vikramaditya (formerly the Soviet Admiral Gorshkov) was commissioned in 2013.

INS Vikrant, India's first indigenously designed and built aircraft carrier, was commissioned on 2 September 2022. It was built at the Cochin Shipyard.

Defence Technology & Missiles — Preparation

This question tests your understanding of Defence Technology & Missiles, a key topic in the General Knowledge section. The detailed solution above uses a step-by-step approach to show the reasoning, and where available, a shortcut that helps you solve similar questions in under 90 seconds during the actual exam.

This topic covers India's defence technology: the missiles developed under the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme and later, their types and ranges, DRDO, defence equipment such as aircraft, tanks, submarines and warships, and military exercises with other countries. Common questions ask what type a missile is (Prithvi is surface-to-surface, Akash is surface-to-air, and Nag is anti-tank), which missile was developed with Russia (BrahMos), and which countries take part in a joint exercise. Lists of exercises and newly inducted equipment change often, so check current affairs as well. Practise the defence technology and missiles questions below, written in the style of the general awareness sections of exams such as SSC, banking, railways, CUET GAT, MAH CET and CLAT. Each question comes with a detailed explanation that adds related facts, so every question helps you revise more than one point.
