Answer: Option C

Detailed Solution

The question figure (X) appears, in the same size and orientation, in answer figure (C).

In each of the other answer figures the shape occurs only turned or flipped (or not at all), which is not allowed.

Hence, option (C).

Embedded Images — Preparation

This question tests your understanding of Embedded Images, a key topic in the Logical Reasoning section. The detailed solution above uses a step-by-step approach to show the reasoning, and where available, a shortcut that helps you solve similar questions in under 90 seconds during the actual exam.

Embedded image questions, also called hidden or embedded figures, show a simple figure and ask you to find which of several complex figures contains it. The simple figure must appear in the complex one with exactly the same size, shape and orientation. It cannot be rotated, flipped or resized. Pick out the most distinctive part of the simple figure, such as an unusual angle, a curve or a particular junction of lines, and search for that part first in each option. Once you find it, check that the rest of the figure is also present with the correct proportions. Be careful with options that contain a similar shape that is slightly larger, smaller or turned. Tracing the figure lightly with your eye, or with a finger on screen, is the most reliable method. Practise the embedded image questions below. Each solution highlights where the figure is hidden.
