Questionmedium

Figure A is related to Figure B in a certain way. In the same way, Figure C is related to which answer figure (the one that replaces '?')?

Answer: Option C

Detailed Solution

From A to B the figure is flipped top to bottom (water image).

Applying the same change to C gives answer figure (C).

The other answer figures show a different change (a different turn or flip, or the colours left unchanged), so they break the A : B relation.

Hence, option (C).

Figure Analogy — Preparation

This question tests your understanding of Figure Analogy, a key topic in the Logical Reasoning section. The detailed solution above uses a step-by-step approach to show the reasoning, and where available, a shortcut that helps you solve similar questions in under 90 seconds during the actual exam.

Figure analogy is an abstract (non-verbal) reasoning question type. You are shown a pair of figures that are related in a particular way, and a third figure. You must find the figure that relates to the third in the same way that the second relates to the first. In other words, A : B :: C : ?. Work out exactly what changes from the first figure to the second, and apply the same change to the third. Common changes include rotation, reflection, inversion, a change in the number of sides or elements, swapping inner and outer shapes, changes in shading, and adding or removing a line. List every change you notice, because the answer must apply all of them. Then rule out options that apply only some of the changes or apply them in the wrong direction. Practise the figure analogy questions below. Each solution describes the transformation in plain words.
