Question 3 of 5 · Figure Classification
Questionmedium

Three of the following four figures are alike in a certain way and one is different. Choose the odd one out.

Question figure
Answer View answer ▾

Answer: Option D — Figure D

Detailed Solution

Three figures are the same figure turned through different angles (rotations).

Figure (D) cannot be obtained by turning: it is a flipped (mirror) version, so it is the odd one out.

Hence, option (D).

Figure Classification — Preparation

This question tests your understanding of Figure Classification, a key topic in the Logical Reasoning section. The detailed solution above uses a step-by-step approach to show the reasoning, and where available, a shortcut that helps you solve similar questions in under 90 seconds during the actual exam.

Figure classification is an abstract (non-verbal) reasoning question type, also called the odd figure out. You are shown four or five figures. All of them except one share a common property, and you must find the one that doesn't belong. Compare the figures across several properties: the number of sides or elements, symmetry, the direction of rotation, the position of small elements, shading, open or closed shapes, and the number of lines. Start with the most obvious difference, but don't stop there. Sometimes the figure that looks different at first glance actually fits the pattern, while the odd one out differs in a subtler way. Once you have a candidate, check that all the remaining figures really do share the property you identified. Practise the figure classification questions below. Each solution explains the common property and the odd one out.
