The Constitution of India under Part IV (Articles 36-51) lays down Directive Principles of State Policy, which though are not justiciable, are fundamental in the governance of the country. These lay down the duty of the state to strive for the welfare of the people by securing and protecting a social order in which justice-social, economic and political shall form in all institutions of national life. The framers of the Constitution borrowed this idea from the Irish Constitution. Articles 38, 39, 39A, 41, 42, 43, 43A are Socialist Principles. Articles 40, 43, 43B, 46 and 47 are Gandhian Principles. Articles 44, 45, 48, 49, 50 and 51 are liberal-intellectual principles. The 42nd, 44th and 86th amendments of the constitution have amended the DPSP from time to time.Choose the correct answer from the given options and fill in the blank.Village Panchayats are part of _______ principles as per the Indian Constitution.

Answer View answer ▾

Answer: Option D — Gandhian

Detailed Solution

Village panchayats are covered by Article 40, which the passage places among the Gandhian Principles (40, 43, 43B, 46, 47).

This reflects Gandhi's idea of gram swaraj, self-governing villages.

Article 40 is not in the socialist list (38, 39, 39A, 41, 42, 43, 43A) or the liberal-intellectual list (44, 45, 48-51).
