About the Charar-e-Sharif shrine:
- It is the shrine (ziyarat) of Sheikh Nooruddin Noorani (1377-1438), a Sufi saint and poet who is also known as "Nund Rishi" and is honoured with the title "Alamdar-e-Kashmir" ("flag-bearer of Kashmir").

- The shrine was later rebuilt.

- He is regarded as the spiritual successor of the 14th-century mystic poetess Lal Ded (Lalleshwari).
- His poems are called "shruks" (verses) in Kashmiri.
- One of his famous sayings is "Ann poshi teli yeli wan poshi" ("Food will last only as long as the forests last"), which is used as a slogan for forest conservation in Jammu and Kashmir.
- He is revered by Kashmiri Hindus as "Sahajanand".
