Detailed Solution
Explanation
Kishore Kumar, one of the greatest playback singers of Hindi cinema, was born as Abhas Kumar Ganguly on 4 August 1929 in Khandwa, a town in the Nimar region of present-day Madhya Pradesh.
Kishore Kumar was the youngest of four children of Kunjalal Ganguly, a lawyer, and his wife Gouri Devi. His elder brother, Ashok Kumar, became a famous film actor, and his brother Anoop Kumar was also an actor. Kishore Kumar came to Mumbai (then Bombay) to join his brother and began his career as an actor and singer in the late 1940s. He had no formal training in classical music, but he had a natural, versatile voice and a great talent for comedy and improvisation. He became a successful actor in comedies such as "Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi" (1958), "Half Ticket" (1962) and "Padosan" (1968). From the late 1960s, especially after the songs of the film "Aradhana" (1969), composed by S.D. Burman, he became the leading male playback singer of Hindi cinema, singing for stars such as Rajesh Khanna, Dev Anand and Amitabh Bachchan. He worked closely with the composer R.D. Burman, and his famous songs include "Mere Sapnon Ki Rani", "Roop Tera Mastana", "Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas" and "Zindagi Ek Safar Hai Suhana". He won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer eight times, a record for a male singer. He died in Mumbai on 13 October 1987 and was buried in Khandwa, according to his wishes. The Government of Madhya Pradesh instituted the Kishore Kumar Samman in his memory, an award for contributions to Hindi cinema.
