Answer: Option A — R. D. Burman

Detailed Solution

  • Burman. "Yeh Dosti Hum Nahi Todenge" is a song from the Hindi film "Sholay" (1975), directed by Ramesh Sippy. Its music was composed by Rahul Dev Burman (R. D. Burman, 1939-1994), popularly called "Pancham Da". The lyrics were written by Anand Bakshi, and the song was sung by Kishore Kumar and Manna Dey. In the film it is picturised on Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra, who play the friends Jai and Veeru, and it became one of the best-known songs about friendship in Hindi cinema.
  • D. Burman was the son of the composer S. D. Burman (Sachin Dev Burman). He changed the sound of Hindi film music in the 1960s-1980s by bringing in Western, Latin, rock, jazz and electronic influences, and by using new sounds and instruments. His famous films include "Teesri Manzil", "Amar Prem", "Kati Patang", "Hare Rama Hare Krishna", "Sholay", "Yaadon Ki Baaraat", "Ijaazat" and "1942: A Love Story" (released after his death). He often worked with the singers Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle; he married Asha Bhosle in 1980.

"Sholay" is regarded as one of the greatest Indian films. Its dialogues were written by Salim-Javed, and its villain Gabbar Singh (played by Amjad Khan) became iconic.

Why not the other options?

  • ✗D. Burman was R. D. Burman's father; he composed for films such as "Guide" and "Pyaasa".
  • ✗Laxmikant-Pyarelal composed for films such as "Bobby" and "Amar Akbar Anthony".
  • ✗Kalyanji-Anandji composed for films such as "Don" and "Upkar".
