Answer View answer ▾

Answer: Option D — Yahya bin Ahmad Sirhindi

Detailed Solution

"Tarikh-i-Mubarak Shahi" was written in Persian by Yahya bin Ahmad bin Abdullah Sirhindi, in the first half of the 15th century.

About the Tarikh-i-Mubarak Shahi:

  • It was dedicated to Sultan Mubarak Shah (1421-1434), the second ruler of the Sayyid dynasty, and named after him.
  • It covers the history of the Delhi Sultanate from the time of Muhammad Ghori up to the reign of Muhammad Shah, the third Sayyid ruler (about 1434).
  • It is the most important contemporary source for the history of the Sayyid dynasty, as very few other contemporary accounts of this period exist.
  • It also gives useful information about the last years of the Tughlaq dynasty, the invasion of Timur, and the political conditions after it.
  • Later historians, such as Nizamuddin Ahmad and Badauni, used it as a source.

About the author:

Little is known about Yahya Sirhindi, except that he came from Sirhind (in Punjab) and served at the court of the Sayyid Sultans.

The Sayyid dynasty (1414-1451):

  • Its founder had been appointed governor of Multan by Timur.
  • The founder did not take the title of "Sultan", but ruled as a representative ("Rayat-i-Ala") of Timur's successor, Shah Rukh.
  • Later rulers: Mubarak Shah (1421-1434), Muhammad Shah (1434-1445) and Alauddin Alam Shah (1445-1451).
  • Mubarak Shah took the title of "Shah", and founded a new city, Mubarakabad, on the Yamuna.
  • The last ruler, Alam Shah, handed over Delhi to Bahlol Lodi in 1451, and retired to Badaun.
  • The Sayyids were weak rulers, whose authority was limited to Delhi and the surrounding areas.

Other historians:

  • Shams-i-Siraj Afif: wrote a history of Firoz Shah Tughlaq.
  • Nizamuddin Ahmad: wrote "Tabaqat-i-Akbari" (Akbar's reign).
  • Abdul Qadir Badauni: wrote "Muntakhab-ut-Tawarikh" (Akbar's reign).

Why not the other options?

  • ✗Afif, Badauni and Nizamuddin Ahmad wrote other histories.
