Answer View answer ▾

Answer: Option C — 2 and 3

Detailed Solution

1

The principle has two conditions: public authorities could not be approached, and no more harm than necessary was caused.

2

X never tried to inform the police, so the first condition is not shown (statement 2 holds).

3

The robbers were already fleeing, so the danger had passed; killing one of them was more harm than necessary (statement 3 holds). Statements 1 and 4 therefore fail.

⚠ Common trap

(A) 1 and 4 looks only at the warning shot and ignores that the fatal shot was fired at men running away.

Quick tip

Private defence ends when the danger ends: force used on a fleeing attacker is excess.
