Answer: Option C — State of Madras v. Champakam Dorairajan
Detailed Solution
In State of Madras v. Champakam Dorairajan (1951) the Supreme Court struck down caste-based reservation in college admissions.
Parliament responded with the First Amendment (1951), adding Article 15(4) to allow special provisions for socially and educationally backward classes, SCs and STs.
Balaji (1962) and Devadasan (1963) came later and dealt with the extent of reservation.
