Answer: Option C — Rajasthan
Detailed Solution
The Bhadla Solar Park is located at Bhadla, in the Phalodi area of Jodhpur district (now in the newly created Phalodi district), Rajasthan, in the Thar Desert.
About the Bhadla Solar Park:
- It is spread over about 5,700 hectares (around 14,000 acres).
- Its total installed capacity is about 2,245 megawatts (MW), making it one of the largest solar parks in the world.
- It was developed in several phases by the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation, Saurya Urja Company of Rajasthan and other developers, starting around 2015.
- The area is ideal for solar power because it is dry and sandy, receives very high sunlight for most of the year and has low rainfall.
- Its arid conditions also create challenges, such as dust storms and high temperatures; robots are used to clean the solar panels.
Other major solar parks in India:
- Pavagada Solar Park (Shakti Sthala): Tumakuru district, Karnataka; about 2,050 MW.
- Kurnool Ultra Mega Solar Park: Andhra Pradesh; about 1,000 MW.
- Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Park: Madhya Pradesh; 750 MW; it supplies power to the Delhi Metro.
Khavda Renewable Energy Park: Kutch, Gujarat; planned to have a capacity of about 30,000 MW (30 GW) of solar and wind power. When complete, it will be the world's largest renewable energy park.
India and solar energy:
- Rajasthan has the highest installed solar power capacity among Indian states.
- The National Solar Mission (Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission) was launched in 2010.
- India has set a target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel electricity capacity by 2030.
The International Solar Alliance (ISA) was launched by India and France in 2015 at the Paris climate conference (COP21). Its headquarters is at Gurugram, Haryana.
"PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana" (2024) promotes rooftop solar panels for households.
Why not the other options?
- ✗Gujarat has the Khavda Renewable Energy Park.
- ✗Karnataka has the Pavagada Solar Park.
- ✗Andhra Pradesh has the Kurnool Ultra Mega Solar Park.
Quick tip
Remember: Bhadla Solar Park = Rajasthan (Jodhpur/Phalodi, about 2,245 MW); Pavagada = Karnataka; Rewa = MP (Delhi Metro); Khavda = Gujarat (30 GW); ISA HQ = Gurugram.

Minerals & Energy Resources — Preparation
This question tests your understanding of Minerals & Energy Resources, a key topic in the General Knowledge section. The detailed solution above uses a step-by-step approach to show the reasoning, and where available, a shortcut that helps you solve similar questions in under 90 seconds during the actual exam.
This topic covers India's mineral resources (iron ore, manganese, bauxite, copper, mica and others) and energy resources (coal, petroleum, natural gas, nuclear power and renewable energy), with their main producing regions, mines, oil fields and power plants. Questions often ask where a mineral is found, which state is the leading producer, or where an important power plant or oil field is located. For example, Jharia is known for coal, Digboi in Assam is the oldest oil field in India, and Tarapur in Maharashtra is the site of India's first nuclear power plant. Practise the minerals and energy resources questions below, written in the style of the general awareness sections of exams such as SSC, banking, railways, CUET GAT, MAH CET and CLAT. Each question comes with a detailed explanation that adds related facts, so every question helps you revise more than one point.
