Answer: Option D — Sri Lanka

Detailed Solution

The final of the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup was played on 2 April 2011 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. India, captained by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, defeated Sri Lanka, captained by Kumar Sangakkara, by 6 wickets, with 10 balls to spare.

Sri Lanka batted first and scored 274/6 in 50 overs, with Mahela Jayawardene scoring an unbeaten century (103 not out). India lost early wickets, including Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar, but recovered through a partnership between Gautam Gambhir (97) and Virat Kohli, and then between Gambhir and Dhoni. Dhoni, who promoted himself up the batting order, scored an unbeaten 91 and finished the match with a famous six off Nuwan Kulasekara. He was named Player of the Match, while Yuvraj Singh was named Player of the Tournament for his all-round performance.

The 2011 World Cup was co-hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. India became the first team to win the World Cup final on home soil. It was India's second ODI World Cup title, 28 years after the first.

India's major ICC titles in men's cricket:

2013 Champions Trophy: won under Dhoni, defeating England.
