The baulk line, bonus line and end line are related to which sport?
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)View answer ▾Hide ▴
Answer: Option D — Kabaddi
Detailed Solution
The baulk line, bonus line and end line are markings on a kabaddi court.
Lines on a kabaddi court:
Midline (centre line): divides the court into two halves, one for each team.
Baulk line: drawn in each half, parallel to the midline, at a distance of 3.75 m from it (for senior men). A raider must cross the baulk line with at least one foot (with the other foot in the air) for the raid to be counted. If he returns without crossing it, he is declared out (in the Pro Kabaddi League, this is counted as an empty raid in some cases).
Bonus line: drawn 1 m beyond the baulk line, towards the end line. If a raider crosses the bonus line with one foot, while the other foot is in the air, he gets a bonus point. A bonus point can only be earned when at least six defenders are on the court.
End line: the boundary line at the back of each half.
Lobbies: 1 m strips along both sides of the court, which come into play only after a struggle (contact) between the raider and defenders.
Sitting block: an area beyond the end line where "out" players sit, waiting to be revived.
Court size: 13 m x 10 m (with lobbies) for senior men; 12 m x 8 m for women and juniors.
Other key kabaddi terms:
- Raider: the attacking player who enters the opponent's half.
- Antti (defender): a player of the defending team.
- Cant: the continuous chanting of "kabaddi, kabaddi".
- Lona: when all players of a team are out, the opponents get two extra points.
- Super tackle: when three or fewer defenders tackle the raider successfully, earning an extra point.
- Do-or-die raid: a raid where the raider must score, used in the Pro Kabaddi League.
Why not the other options?
- ✗Kho Kho uses terms such as "pole", "central lane", "cross lane" and "Kho".
- ✗Volleyball uses terms such as "attack line", "service zone" and "antenna".
- ✗Badminton uses terms such as "short service line", "long service line" and "tramlines".
Quick tip
Remember: Baulk line (3.75 m from midline), bonus line (1 m beyond baulk), end line, lobby (1 m), Lona, cant, antti = kabaddi.
